After graduation , Alfred Regeniter was on March 16, 1940 in the 4th /Artillerie- replacement section 206 in East Prussia soldier. He took part as a gunner in the IV Division / Artillery Regiment 255 (255th Infantry Division) on the western campaign 1940 , which was used after its completion for coastal protection. As a non-commissioned officer (since March 1, 1941) began for him the company "Barbarossa" , which he witnessed among other uses as a senior observer in the artillery regiment 255.

In March 1943 he volunteered for Storm Artillery and became reserve officer candidate . After completing the Fahnenjunkerlehrgangs and commanding the Sturmgeschützschule Burg took place on 3 May 1944 as lieutenant of the reserve his transfer to the 3rd Battery / assault gun brigade 276, with this he was in East Prussia in use.
The brigade, which had escaped the Kessel battle of Kamenez-Podolski , was since the end of April 1944 in German Eylau in West Prussia for Refreshment (Military District XX) The further use was from August 1944 in the room Willkowischken. In Lithuania 1944 Regeniter was used as Offzier eg V. at the regimental command post of Lieutenant Colonel / Colonel Friedrich Quentin ✠ .

On August 21, 1944, commander Major Norbert Braun fell by fire from a Russian tank rifle, as he put his head out of the hatch for observation. In further rearguard action, the brigade was pushed back under heavy losses in the direction of Wirballen, Eydkau and Ebenrode and spent Christmas 1944 in Pultusk - Ciechanow. Thereafter, the brigade was used in the rooms Kulm, Graudenz and Stargard and suffered in heavy fighting heavy losses. In the final battle for the Reich, Regeniter experienced the downfall of West and East Prussia on the front line.
The end of the war in the hospital
Regeniter led the 3rd battery of the brigade and distinguished himself at the beginning of February 1945 in the fighting in West Prussia, the assault gun brigade 276 fought here as part of the 251st Infantry Division and was the focus of the Russian attacks. On February 10, 1945 Regeniter was wounded at Stenzlau and remained until August 1945 in the reserve hospital Kronach / Upper Franconia, where he was then released from US captivity
After war and imprisonment Regeniter studied medicine, attained a doctorate to Dr. med. med. and worked as a successful doctor.
It was not until 1974 that Dr. Regeniter, that he had been awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on April 5, 1945 for the excellent leadership of the battery and his own 18 armored launches with his assault gun .
Regeniter died in July 2016 at the age of 95, one of the last surviving Knights Cross Bearers.
