Theodor Wisch volunteered as one of the first volunteers in 1933 to the Leibstandarte and already he was promoted to Untersturmführer in July 1933. As Hauptsturmführer and Commander who took 1 / "LSSAH" he invasion of Poland part, at the end, he was promoted to Sturmbannführer on January 30, 1940. Battalion of the infantry regiment "LSSAH" he participated as Commander of the II in the Western campaign and in the fighting in the Balkans. From Juni1941, he fought in Russia, where he could relieve a trapped battalion and throw back superior Russian opponents in the summer of 1941. For this, he was awarded with the Knight's cross on 15 September 1941. In the autumn of 1942, he was commander of the 2nd Panzer Grenadier Regiment and promoted to Standartenführer on January 30, 1943. He was awarded the German cross in gold for personal bravery during the fighting in Kharkov on 25 February 1943. On 1 July 1943, promoted to Oberführer, he became Commander of the 1st Panzer Division "LSSAH"in late July 1943. In the heavy fighting in the winter 1943/44 in Berdichev, Zhitomir and Korosten suffered high casualties the Division, won some crucial defense achievements, for which Wisch on 12 February 1944 as Brigadeführer and Generalmajor of the Waffen SS with the Oak leaves was awarded. After the encirclement of the Division with the 1st Panzer army near Cherkassy, this was reorganized in France and used from June 1944 on the French invasion front. In the cauldron of Falaise, Wisch was wounded by mortar shrapnel in both legs and had to give up the command of the Division. On August 30, 1944, he was awarded with swords for his leadership. Until war's end, he lay in a hospital, then came in British captivity and was released in 1948.
