Framed Award Document Signed by Erwin Rommel “The Desert Fox”. Beautifully framed award document authorizing the award of the Spange to the Iron Cross 1st Class, to two officers from Artillery Regiment 221, Major Erwin Schade and Hauptmann der Reserve Artur Unrauh awarded March 1 1942. The document is issued by the Oberkommando der Panzerarmee Afrika and is dated 30 January 1942. It is signed in pencil by Rommel, General der Panzertruppen und Oberbefehlshaber der Panzerarmee Afrika. There are two slight small tears on the left hand side of the document, where it appears that it was torn from a ring binder. This does not detract from the document and certainly no effect on the signature.

Mounted to the left of the document are two postcards of Rommel, one being a colored Willrich card where someone has written his name underneath as well as the comment in German that Rommel is from his home town. The other postcard is a photograph of Rommel with a facsimile signature underneath. Above the photo is an original Spange to the Iron Cross 1st Class, referred to in the document. Below the Willrich card is an original General’s Visor Wreath and Cockade. Below the Rommel related items is a brass plaque inscribed “The Desert Fox Generalfeldmarshall Erwin Rommel 1891-1944

Professionally mounted in a gold colored, oakleave frame measuring 25 ½” by 16”

Superb display piece of one of Germany’s most respected military figures.
